Action. And Energy!

In the West, we have a strong bias toward action. Change needs action. In his brilliant Ted Talk, Baratunde Thurston (the story of his name alone is worth watching!) shows us how seemingly small actions make big differences. You will definitely want to gather your family around to enjoy and learn from his “ideas worth spreading”. This is just one talk from an excellent play list curated by Ted to help us understand racism in America and take positive action for change.

Yes, we need to educate ourselves and take action. Did you know you can also use your energy to help facilitate healing for black, indigenous, and people of color? For any marginalized community?

In April, I released a Free Guided Healing Meditation for Earth Day. You can apply these same visualizations to help heal the pain caused by systemic racism or other -ism, not only in our country, but across the world. Set this as your intention when beginning the meditation and your energy will flow toward this healing.

You likely will not be able to “show” anything for your time meditating like you would by marching in a protest or writing a letter to your senator, but the healing is real and worthy. You can’t “see” gravity or micro-waves, but they still work. It’s the same with energy.

Most people believe we are separate from our Earth, that we live on “top” of our planet. Likewise, many people believe we are individuals and separate from even those of the same race and/or nationality, much less others who look, speak, or believe differently.

These are mere illusions. In reality, we are inextricably linked with our Earth. Equally true is that we are energetically connected with our fellow humans of all race, gender, sexual orientation, income and educational levels, and physical and psychological abilities, geographic locations, religious beliefs—absolutely everyone.

There is one Life Force Energy flowing through all beings--beating our hearts, breathing our lungs, blooming the flowers. When one part of us aches, we all suffer whether we’re conscious of it or not.

It’s an easy platitude to say, “we’re in this together.” What’s more helpful, is for each of us to sink into our deep, inner knowing that we are all energetically connected. We will then act for the benefit of the collective rather than singularly pursuing our own personal interests.

I invite you to revisit our Earth Healing Meditation with the intention to heal the pain felt by marginalized communities the world over. This is energy in action. Peace begins within.
